When Fitbit launched its flagship Ionic smartwatch back in 2017, the company has also introduced a cashless payment system called Fitbit Pay. Since then, the feature has been included in selected Fitbit devices including the newly launched Versa 2 but unfortunately, Fitbit Pay is not yet available in Malaysia.
Naturally, the availability of Fitbit Pay in Malaysia has become a common request among local users since the release of Ionic into our market. If you are one of them, we have good news then: the wait is almost over.
At the launch of Versa 2, Fitbit Premium, and Aria Air 2 for Malaysia today, the Regional Director for Fitbit Southeast Asia, Louis Lye has revealed that Fitbit Pay is expcted to be available in our market in Q1 2020. While he was not able to reveal in-depth details regarding the arrival of Fitbit Pay in Malaysia, Louis has stated that the system is able to support Visa and Mastercard.
During the launch, Louis has also pointed out that the cashless payment infrastructure has improved so much in Malaysia and with Fitbit Pay already been approved by authorities, it is just a matter of getting the financial ecosystem ready for it. With that, we’ll keep you updated once we hear more from the company regarding Fitbit Pay for Malaysia.
