Xiaomi has officially unveiled the Mi Mix Alpha at a special launch event earlier today, alongside the Mi 9 Pro 5G, Mi Full Screen TV Pro, and MIUI 11. While the recent arrival of “waterfall” display might seem to be the direction where the industry is heading next, the Mi Mix Alpha pushes it to another level with a bezel-less display wrapping around the body.
With a screen to body ratio of 180.6% and titanium alloy frame, there is no doubt on Mi Mix Alpha’s ability to command attention. Since the display is covering almost its entire body, Xiaomi has made an interesting design decision to position the status icons for the 5G network signal and battery percentage on the right side of Mi Mix Alpha.
The company has also opted to implement pressure-sensitive virtual buttons on the device over the traditional physical buttons and will rely on AI algorithms as well as multiple sensors to prevent accidental touches.
Aside from the unique display, the Mi Mix Alpha is also the first device to utilize the equally new 108MP Samsung ISOCELL Bright HMX camera sensor on its main camera which also acts as a selfie camera. Xiaomi has also equipped a 20MP f/2.2 wide-angle camera with 1.5cm super macro support into the phone, together with a 12MP f/2.0 telephoto 2x zoom camera.
On top of all that, the Mi Mix Alpha is also powered by the latest Snapdragon 855 Plus SoC with a 12GB/512GB memory and internal storage setup. There is also a 4050mAh nano silicone cathode battery that supports wired fast charging support of up to 40W.

As Xiaomi has deemed the Mi Mix Alpha as a “concept” phone, it is not surprising that the company has stated that only a small amount of the phone will be released into the market towards the end of the year. Nevertheless, we are still quite shocked to see the phone’s hefty price tag of CNY 19,999 (~RM11,773).
