Matt Reeves’ The Batman is one of the most alluring comic book projects in the works right now. Not only is it directed by the helmer of the excellent Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and War For the Planet of the Apes, it also stars Robert Pattinson, one of the best and most intriguing actors working today.
Now that we’ve got our caped crusader, it’s time to fill up the rest of the cast, starting with the villains. After all, it’s always more exciting to know who’s going to be playing what villain in a Batman movie even more so than Batman himself, considering how stacked his Rogues Gallery is.
According to Collider.com, Jonah Hill is currently in talks to play a villain in The Batman opposite Robert Pattinson. Interestingly enough, sources told Collider that Jonah Hill will not be playing Penguin as initially speculated but rather, The Riddler.
On the surface, this seems like a very odd pick. Ask any Batman fan which villain they’d love to see Jonah Hill play and they’d most likely say Penguin. However, Reeves is the type of director who likes to push the envelope and make creative decisions that are out of the box — I mean, the casting of Robert Pattinson says it all.
Apart from that, though, we have to also remember that Jonah Hill is a two time Oscar nominee (The Wolf of Wall Street and Moneyball). While most people know him as “the incredibly funny, chubby guy from Superbad and 21 Jump Street), Hill is also one heck of an all-round performer. There is little doubt in my mind that if Hill is indeed cast as The Riddler, he’ll do a fantastic job.
Matt Reeves’ The Batman will begin filming this November/December and is set for a summer 2021 release.
