Razer is one of the worlds top brands in gaming and esports which should be known by the vast majority of esports fans and general gaming fans alike by now, while esports and gaming fans in Southeast Asia on the other hand are a little more likely to be familiar with Razer’s Singaporean CEO – Min-Liang Tan.
Once upon a time, Razer was known mostly for it’s wide range of stylish gaming peripherals, but in the years since the esports boom started, Razer has established itself as a constant presence within the global esports industry, with their CEO leading the way as he has been one of the most outspoken and faithful supporters of the esports industry in the SEA region.
Late last year, Min-Liang Tan made headlines when he openly pledged RM 10 million towards the development of esports in Malaysia in support of the Malaysian Ministry of Youth and Sports decision to pledge RM 10 Million from the national budget towards Malaysian esports as part of the new budget announcement.
This year, the famously pro-esports CEO has decided to make another incredibly generous contribution to the development of esports in the region by pledging S$10 Million to esports and gaming in Singapore.
The announcement was made on Min-Liang Tan’s official Facebook page where he revealed that his latest pledge was in response to a statement made by the Singaporean Trade and Industry Minister Chan Chung Sing who touted Singapore as having several measures in place to support the growth of the gaming and esports industry.
Furthermore, Min-Liang Tan also remarked that this pledge was also a reponse to a letter sent to the ST Forum last week which argued that esports shouldn’t be put in the same category as traditional sports.
Given that the Razer CEO actually came under fire from Singaporeans who accused him of not supporting Singaporean esports after he made his RM10 Million pledge to Malaysian esports last year, it appears that Min-Liang Tan is set to shake off criticisms and continue being one of the most prominent, high-profile supporters of esports in Southeast Asia as he continues to devote himself and Razer towards developing the industry in the region.
