Astro’s online streaming platform Astro GO will no longer be available to LG TV owners by the end of this month. An official notification appeared on the app itself last week informing users of the cessation of service, but failed to provide any explanation as to why the app is being removed.
Earlier last month, the Astro GO app mysteriously disappeared from the LG Content Store – but made a quick comeback when it became obvious that the removal from the LG Content Store also removed the app from users who had already downloaded it.
The Astro GO for LGTV app made its debut early last year, and was heavily promoted in the lead up to the 2018 World Cup by LG themselves. Users who purchased LG Smart TV’s hoping to use it as a second device to stream Astro’s Channels are obviously upset at the sudden removal of the App from their devices.
The new improved updated Astro GO app is still available for download on the Play Store, as well as the Apple Store, but only for mobile devices. You will still not be able to officially download it for your Android TV or Apple TV devices. Strangely enough, the App made available to LG TV users, that is being discontinued is a much more polished app then what is offered to mobile users.
With more and more users upgrading to Smart TV’s it seems to be a strange move by Astro to discontinue their only official Smart TV app.
