Earlier today, Canon Malaysia officially launched its PowerShot G series cameras, the G5 X Mark II and G7 X Mark III. The cameras, which were announced back in July 2019, are the brand’s latest additions to its PowerShot G lineup.
Both cameras have a 20.1MP sensor in a 1-inch stacked CMOS, which Canon says is larger than the sensors typically found in compact cameras. More importantly, the cameras also have ISO speed from 125 – 12800, and is expandable by up to 25600.
Underneath the hood, both cameras are packing Canon’s DIGIC 8 processor, which are more or less identical to the processor found in the newly released EOS M6 Mark II And EOS 90D.
Moving on, both cameras are capable of recording videos in 4K at 30fps films, and without any crop. Specifically, the 4K film is recorded in motion JPEG, allowing users to save high-quality 8MP JPEGs from the frame grabs utility.
The cameras are also capable of shooting at 30 fps on RAW (with 20 fps in JPEG). Additionally, the cameras also feature a “pre-shoot” setting, where the camera will start shooting at 0.5 seconds before fully capturing the photo.
Canon has also been keeping up with the times; both the PowerShot G5 X Mark II and G7 X Mark III feature USB-C support for power delivery and data transfer. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are also present with both cameras, allowing users to transfer photos directly to a smartphone via the Canon Camera Connect app.
Both the PowerShot G5 X Mark II and G7 X Mark III also feature a 3.0-inch tilt-type LCD for easier viewing angles. Adding on to the cameras’ features is the ability to live-stream directly to YouTube via Wi-Fi.
As for the differences, the G5 X Mark II is capable of 5x optical zoom, equivalent to 24mm – 120mm f/1.8 – f/2.8 focal length at 35mm format while the G7 Mark III has a 4.2x optical zoom, equivalent to 24 – 100mm. Between the two, however, only the G5 X Mark II has a pop-up electronic viewfinder.
Both the Canon PowerShot G5 X Mark II and G7 X Mark III are already available in Malaysia. The G5 X Mark II will retail at an SRP of RM3599, while the G7 X Mark III is priced at RM2999.
