Much has been said about the casting of Robert Pattinson as Gotham’s Dark Knight in Matt Reeves’ (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, War For the Planet of the Apes) upcoming The Batman. Many, particular casual filmgoing audiences are under the impression that he’s a terrible choice — “Urgh! WB sucks. How can they cast a sparkly vampire to be Batman?” are some of the common comments. On the other hand, people who are familiar with Pattinson’s work post-Twilight recognise him as one of the best and most exciting actors working in cinema today, one who could be phenomenal as the iconic comic book character.
And it looks like Christian Bale, the critically acclaimed actor who played Batman in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy fully vouches for Robert Pattinson as well. In an interview with Variety, Bale was asked what he thought of the casting of Pattinson as Batman. Bale said:
“Oh, good. Good choice, he’s interesting. I’m sure he’ll come up with something interesting.”
Bale’s Ford vs Ferrari co-star Matt Damon chimed in, saying:
“Did you see the Safdie brothers movie [Good Time] that he did? He’s fantastic. He’s really good.”
When asked if he had any advice for Pattinson, who will be donning the Batsuit, Bale cheekily said:
“Oh, same as for Ben [Affleck]. Just be able to pee by yourself. You don’t feel much like a superhero when you can’t take a piss by yourself.”

Apart from Matt Reeves’ The Batman, Robert Pattinson is also currently working on Christopher Nolan’s upcoming mind-bender, Tenet. And this October will see the release of The Lighthouse, an indie horror film helmed by the director of The Witch.
The Batman will begin filming this November/December and is set for a summer 2021 release.
