Grab has introduced what it calls PayLater, which is essentially a postpaid payment option for all of its services. The idea is that you make use of the company’s services first, and settle them all in a single bill later. This applies to Grab rides, GrabFood deliveries, and the GrabExpress courier service.
PayLater is only available to eligible users. According to the FAQ on Grab Malaysia’s website, eligibility depends on a number of factors. These range from your GrabRewards tier to the number of rides you’ve taken. Selected users will also get a pre-approved PayLater Available Amount, which is basically your credit limit.
Activating PayLater is done by selecting it under Payment options. Once activated, it will be the primary payment method for all of Grab’s services. The billing period is from the first day of the month to the last day, regardless of activation date. The bill itself will be generated on the first day of the next month, and you’ll have to settle the bill within the week. This is done using your GrabPay balance.
While there’s no interest or additional fees for using PayLater, not paying the bill by the due date will result in the suspension of the service. You’ll also be charged RM10 for it. On the other hand, GrabRewards points will still be awarded when you have PayLater as your payment option, at the same rate as the standard GrabPay.
