A rather popular line-up in Malaysia, the Huawei nova series recently has received a new family member in the form of Huawei nova 5T. Currently available for pre-order with a price tag of RM 1599, Huawei now has a special offer for those that are still holding on to their existing Huawei nova phones.
Now, you might be thinking: why should I replace my perfectly working Huawei nova phone? Well, there are certainly plenty of reasons to move up to the new nova 5T especially if you still holding on to the nova 2 which was originally launched back in 2017. Now, let’s take a look at a couple of them.
SIGNIFICANT PERFORMANCE UPGRADE BY KIRIN 980
For starters, the nova 5T is powered by Huawei’s current flagship-level chip, the Kirin 980 which is also being used on the company’s high-end models such as the P30 Pro and Mate 20 Pro. Said to be the first 7nm mobile processors in the world, the chip also brings a whole new level performance to the nova series.
As compared to its predecessor Kirin 970 which powered nova 4 as well as several other Huawei’s 2017 and 1H 2018 flagship models, Kirin 980 offers 75% improvements in terms of single-core CPU performance. The Mali-G76 GPU inside the Kirin 980 also has 46% more graphics performance than its predecessor.
Not only that, the Image Signal Processor (ISP) within Kirin 980 also features a dedicated video pipeline that helps reduce video shooting delays by 33% and improves video clarity. Let’s not forget Kirin 980’s dual-core Neural Processor Unit (NPU) which allows the chip to deliver improved performance for AI calculation at up to 120%
Furthermore, the nova 5T also comes standard with 8GB LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB UFS 2.1 internal storage alongside a substantially sized 3750mAh battery. Altogether, we are looking at quite a powerhouse right here.
THE VERSATILITY OF 5 AI CAMERA
Aside from carrying a high level of performance, the nova 5T is also designed to deliver a wide range of photos thanks to its 5 AI Camera. Four of these cameras are located on the back of the phone including its main camera which features a 1/2-inch 48MP sensor from Sony and f/1.8 lens.
With its 4-in-1 Image Fusion Technology, you can expect bright and clear images. Even in low-light conditions, you can still rely on nova 5T to deliver excellent output with the help of its AI-powered Super Night Mode.

If you are feeling adventurous, you can choose to utilize nova 5T’s 16MP f/2.2 ultra wide-angle camera to produce epic-like images. There’s also the 2MP depth sensor to help you produce beautiful portraits and a dedicated 2MP Super Macro Lens camera that allows you to capture photos from a distance as close as 4cm.
The same 4-in-1 Image Fusion Technology from the 48MP main camera is also present on the nova 5T’s 32MP selfie camera which is housed on the upper left side of the phone’s screen. The AI power of the phone’s Kirin 980 processor further help balances the lightings and optimizes the background of your selfies.
ATTRACTIVE AND THOUGHTFUL DESIGN
The Huawei nova 5T is not just about performance and functionality but is also about great design. For example, the implementation of an in-display selfie camera on the top left cornet part of nova 5T’s display allows you to utilize the phone with minimal distractions as opposed to the traditional notch which is usually positioned in the middle of the screen.
At only 4.5mm, the 32MP selfie camera also consumes very little space and provides you with much larger viewing space on nova 5T’s 6.26-inch Full HD+ All-View display. Huawei has also decided to put nova 5T’s fingerprint scanner on the side of the phone which is quite easy to reach when you are holding the phone with one hand.
The nova 5T can be obtained with three dazzling colour choices including Midsummer Purple, Crush Blue, and Black that are combined with interesting mix of reflective finish and textured surface. For Midsummer Purple, it also features not only the unignorable nova branding and nova pattern on the back of the phone.
