At this point, I wouldn’t be surprised if this entire episode turns out to be some kind of elaborate prank by Warner Bros and DC. I mean how many times has The Flash movie hired and parted ways with directors? How many script rewrites has it undergone? Well, it looks like — temporarily at least — The Flash has found another new director. This past July, reports started swirling around that It and It: Chapter Two helmer Andy Muschietti was in talks with Warner Bros to direct The Flash, a superhero project that has been stuck in developmental hell for ages. Well, it looks like those rumours have now turned to reports.
In a recent interview with Fandango, Andy Muschietti confirmed that not only will he be directing The Flash, it will also be his next project. This is an interesting pairing indeed as Muschietti is known more for his horror projects. He first made his presence known with his horror film Mama, starring Jessica Chastain in 2013. After that, he went on to make It which became a massive global phenomenon. The sequel, also helmed by Muschietti will be gracing the big screen in a few days time.
Seeing as how Muschietti has made a name for himself directing horror, there are some who wondered if his upcoming film, The Flash would have elements of horror in it. However, Muschietti said that will likely not be the case. In the same interview with Fandango, he said:
“An element of horror? I don’t think so. What captivated me about The Flash is the human drama in it. The human feelings and emotions that play in the drama [of it]. It’s going to be fun, too. I can’t promise that there will be any horror [elements in it], really, but it’s a beautiful human story.”
The Flash will be hitting cinemas when the moon is green and pigs start to fly. No seriously, we have no idea. But we’re hoping for the best!
