Update: Yesterday I mentioned that Kit Harrington will most likely not be starring in The Eternals as it’s already a packed, star-studded cast. Well, it looks like I was wrong. During a D23 panel, Kevin Feige confirmed that the Game of Thrones star will indeed be starring in The Eternals as the superhero Black Knight.
Original story follows:
If you watched the final moments of Game of Thrones and wondered where Jon Snow (Kit Harrington) was heading to beyond the wall, we have the answer — to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. According to Deadline, Kit Harrington is set to join Kevin Feige’s superhero universe, though it’s still unclear as of now what character he will be playing. Looks like similar to Jon Snow, we know absolutely nothing.
This news breaks just as D23 commenced. The weekend-long Disney convention has already unveiled a bunch of new updates, including the first trailer for upcoming Disney+ series The Mandalorian and also confirmation on an Obi-Wan Kenobi series. There’s going to be a lot more news related to the MCU dropping throughout the day as well, so stay tuned for our coverage. We’re hoping to hear more about Kit Harrington’s role in MCU before the weekend wraps up.
We may not know what role Kit Harrington is set to play yet, but there’s certainly no shortage of options. At SDCC last month, Marvel revealed their phase 4 lineup which includes a bunch of intriguing titles such as The Eternals, Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness and Shang Chi and the Legends of the Ten Rings. I doubt Kit Harrington will be involved in The Eternals, as the film already has a stacked cast, including Angelina Jolie and Harrington’s Game of Thrones co-star Richard Madden (AKA Robb Stark). Perhaps Harrington could be a villain in one of those films.
However, I’m leaning more towards a character on a Disney+ TV Series. Moon Knight, perhaps? Which brings us to our second news.
For the longest time, there have been murmurs about a Moon Knight TV series in development over at Marvel Studios. At one point, James Gunn was attached to the project, but he didn’t have the time to work on it. Now, Marvel Studios have confirmed that a Moon Knight series for Disney+ is currently in the works. This was announced by Marvel Studios captain Kevin Feige during the D23 Disney+ panel.
Moon Knight is an intriguing comic book character — a tortured soul akin to DC’s Batman. In the comics, Moon Knight is an ex-Marine named Marc Spector who becomes the earthly avatar of the Egyptian Moon God Khonshu. The character is skilled in hand-to-hand combat and uses plenty of gadgets too.
I believe Kit Harrington could be a really good Moon Knight. He certainly has the look. If written well, this series could test Harrington as a performer more than Game of Thrones ever did.
