Despite being scheduled for release next year, bits of information on the PlayStation 5 have already surfaced. That said, none of them are about its looks. This may have changed with a patent that Sony was recently granted, which depicts a video game console with a very unusual design.
Dutch site Let’s Go Digital reports that Sony was granted a patent of an unknown electronic device. It was applied for by Sony Interactive Entertainment, first at the Instituto Nacional da Propriedade Industrial (INPI) of Brazil, followed by the World Intellectual Property Office (WIPO).
We never found the WIPO entry, and the INPI entry consisted of only a single image. Let’s Go Digital found images of the device at more angles, which does look quite like console. It even comes with multiple USB ports on the front, and on the back, ports for audiovisual devices. While it’s possible that this is the PS5 itself, it may also be a devkit instead.
Either way, it’s probably best to take this with a pinch of salt. The official launch is still a long way to go, and many things could change between now and then.
