Ubisoft’s next major title, Ghost Recon Breakpoint, is a little more than a month away from launch. At Gamescom 2019, the developer and publisher announced a new multiplayer game mode for the title: Ghost Wars.
The concept of Ghost Wars is a PVP mode for Breakpoint, tweaked of course, to have some elements of battle royale inside the game, albeit on a significantly smaller scale. Basically, a total of eight players will take on each other in a 4v4 team deathmatch in one of two modes: Elimination or Sabotage.
As the name suggests, Elimination requires both teams to hunt down and eliminate each other, all while staying within the boundaries of a constantly shrinking combat zone. This mode obviously bears the closest resemblance to battle royale titles such as PUBG, Fortnite, and Battlefield V’s Firestorm.
The next mode, Sabotage, seems to draw inspiration from Valve’s ever-popular Counter-Strike game mode. In this mode, the attacking team must successfully plant and detonate a bomb at one of the map’s designated Bomb Sites, while the defending team either picks off the enemy team or defuse the bomb.
That’s not all. Ubisoft says that Ghost Wars will seamlessly integrate into the original PVE mode of Breakpoint. Meaning that whatever skill points, character class, weapons customisations, and experience a player earns in either mode will be accessible across the board.
Ghost Recon Breakpoint will be available starting 4 October 2019, but for players who want to try out the game a little earlier can sign up for the beta from 5 to 8 September. The game will be available on the PS4, Xbox One, and on the PC via Uplay.
