Last week, information pertaining to Realme’s 4th generation smartphones, the Realme 5 and Realme 5 Pro appeared online, with their hardware having been partially revealed. Earlier today, the parent company officially launched the devices in India.
As part of an on-going trend, One of the main features of the Realme 5 Pro is its quad-camera main array. Specs-wise, it sports a Sony IMX586 sensor 48MP f/1.8 primary shooter, an 8MP f/2.25 ultra-wide-angle camera, a 2MP portrait lens, and a 2MP macro shooter.
On the front side, the Realme 5 Pro is equipped a 16MP f/2.0 selfie camera, housed in a teardrop notch design. The display measures in at 6.3-inches, and has a 19.5:9 aspect ratio and Full HD+ resolution with Corning Gorilla Glass 3+ protection.
Underneath the hood, the phone is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 712 SoC and comes in three RAM and storage configurations. The first variant, the 4GB/64GB, is priced at Rs. 13999 (~RM816), 6GB/64GB at Rs. 14999 (~RM874) and the top of the line model with 8GB/128GB has a price tag of Rs. 16999 (~RM991).
The Realme 5 Pro also includes a 4035mAh battery and uses OPPO’s fast charging VOOC 3.0 technology. On that note, the phone will also ship out with a 20W USB Type-C charger included in the packaging.
The Realme 5 Pro comes in two colours, Sparkling Blue and Crystal Green.
Moving on to the Realme 5, the biggest attraction is on the battery capacity rated at 5,000 mAh battery that Realme says will enable it to run for 718 hours on standby time. Further, the phone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 SoC.
Additionally, the phone offers up to three options of RAM and storage as well. The first choice would be 3GB/32GB, at a price of Rs. 9999 (~RM582), and 4GB/64GB Rs. 10999 (~RM641) and lastly 4GB/128GB with a price point of Rs. 11999 (~RM700). Also, where the Pro variant uses a USB-C connector, the Realme 5 still uses a Micro-USB port.
Camera-wise, the Realme 5 is armed with the same main camera module as the Realme 5 Pro, while the selfie camera sports a simple 13MP sensor.
The Realme 5’s display is a 6.5-inch HD+ panel with a 20:9 aspect ratio and comes with Corning Gorilla 3+ protection as well. There are two colours options available for the Realme 5 – Crystal Blue and Crystal Purple.
The similarities between both the Realme 5 series is that both phones have a 3.5mm earphone jack and will be running Android 9.0 Pie with a tweaked version of OPPO’s ColorOS 6. The Realme 5 series also has a “splash-resistant design” where Realme claims that the design will be able to protect the phones from minor accidents.
Both phones are expected to be available in India from 4 September onwards. At the time of writing, Realme has not specified local availability or pricing for the Realme 5 and Realme 5 Pro.
