Activision Blizzard’s upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will be released on 25 October 2019. But if you want to give its multiplayer mode a try, you can do so quite a bit earlier. The publisher announced that the 2v2 Gunfight Mode open alpha will be held on 24 August, this weekend.
Unlike the standard multiplayer modes of Call of Duty, Gunfight Mode has you start each match with a loadout randomly picked from a wide range of preset loadouts. Your opponent will be using the same loadout as you, so it will be down to the skill of the players. There will be five maps available during this open alpha.
That said, there’s a small catch to it. The PvP multiplayer open alpha is a PlayStation 4 exclusive. On the bright side though, you don’t need a PlayStation Plus subscription, nor do you need to pre-order the game. It will be one of the few instances of a multiplayer mode not requiring the PS Plus subscription.
To quickly recap, the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2v2 Gunfight Mode open alpha is open to PS4 players this weekend, starting 24 August 2019. The full game, on the other hand, will be out on 25 October on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. It will also support cross-platform play.
