Sony has officially acquired Insomniac Games, the developer responsible for the critically acclaimed Spider-Man and Ratchet and Clank series on the PlayStation 4 (PS4) console. The developer is the latest company to join Sony’s Worldwide Studios umbrella, which includes Guerilla Games, Japan Studio, Naughty Dog, and Polyphony Digital, to name a few.
“Insomniac Games is one of the most highly-acclaimed development studios in the industry and their legacy of best-in-class storytelling and gameplay is unparalleled,” Shawn Layden, chairman of SIE WWS. “ The addition of Insomniac Games to SIE WWS reiterates our commitment to developing world-class gaming experiences that can only be found on the PlayStation platform.”

So, what does the acquisition mean? Well, for a start, Insomniac is now a PlayStation exclusive game developer. Also, given the company’s relationship with Sony over its 25 years history, as well as Sony’s current track record with video game developers, it’s not a stretch to say that it’s an acquisition well-deserved.
