Back in May, we have learned that Sony Mobile is no longer interested to release their phones in Malaysia. However, the well-known SIRIM database observer, Kevin Ng TK have found something that seems to contradict that move: the appearance of Sony Xperia 1.
Its appearance came slightly a year after Xperia XZ2 Premium which was the last device to pass through SIRIM back in July 2018. Not only that, the device currently registered under Sony Malaysia’s name alone which is rather odd as Xperia devices traditionally would appear in SIRIM database under distributors’ name as well.

First announced to the world back in February during Mobile World Congress, Xperia 1 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 and features a 6.5-inch 4K HDR OLED display with a rather unique 21:9 aspect ratio. The phone also features three 12MP cameras on its back and 8MP selfie camera alongside 3330mAh battery.
We are reaching out to Sony Malaysia for further information but given that it is now a long weekend, it might take some time for the official answer to pop up. So, stay tuned.
