MediaTek has announced the Helio G90 and G90T chipset. Naturally you’d wonder if any phone maker will be using them in their upcoming models. To that, only Xiaomi has announced that it will have a device with the new chipset coming this year.
The announcement was made by Manu Jain, Vice President of Xiaomi Global and Managing Director of Xiaomi India. And it came at the end of MediaTek’s announcement event of the Helio G90 and Helio G90T. But that’s also all he said on the subject, with no mention of what model it is, or when exactly it will be announced.
It’s interesting to see Xiaomi making an announcement like this. The last time we heard of a Xiaomi phone using a MediaTek chipset was the Redmi 6 back in 2018.
There are other brands who have committed to using MediaTek’s new chipset too, beyond Xiaomi. That said, TL Lee, Head of MediaTek’s Wireless Business Unit, said that the company is not authorised to disclose which brands they are or when their Helio G90-equipped devices will be announced.
