Qualcomm has just announced its Snapdragon 855 Plus, which offers better performance than the current Snapdragon 855. MediaTek is reportedly also doing the same with its Helio P90 chipset. Reports of the Taiwanese chipmaker announcing its Helio G90 have surfaced, with a launch slated for the end of the month.
A poster of what looks to be a launch event has been making the rounds. It features the name Helio G90, and the 30 July 2019 date below, as well as Shanghai as the location. Beyond that, there’s not much else as far as information goes.
The MediaTek Helio P90 comes with two ARM Cortex-A75 cores that run up to 2.2GHz, and six ARM Cortex-A55 cores with a maximum speed of 2.0GHz. On the GPU front, the chipset comes with the PowerVR GM 9446, capable of speeds of up to 970MHz. It’s difficult to say for certain what sort of improvements the G90 will have over the P90.
As it is, it’s probably safe to assume that MediaTek will bring all round improvements to the Helio P90, like the Snapdragon 855 Plus did for the base Snapdragon 855. But for the exact details, we’ll have to wait for the official announcement. judging from the poster, it wouldn’t be too long a wait either.
