Man, the Falcon and The Winter Soldier series is looking to be one hell of a show, judging by the stacked cast and crew at least. Previously, we reported that not only were Captain America: Civil War stars Daniel Bruhl (Helmut Zemo) and Emily VanCamp (Sharon Carter) in talks to join Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan, Marvel Studios had also signed acclaimed director Kari Skogland (The Handmaid’s Tale) to bring Malcolm Spellman’s screenplay to life. Now, in another exciting development, it looks like Spellman will not be sitting in his room writing alone, but will be collaborating with Derek Kolstad, the man who wrote the screenplays for the John Wick movies.
This cool piece of news comes courtesy of The Wrap, who confirmed that Kolstad will be part of the writing team of this six-part series that will be dropping on Disney Plus streaming service in August 2020. As always, Marvel Studios have declined to comment.
Derek Kolstad is an interesting choice for a writer indeed. While the John Wick movies will, for the most part, be hailed for its groundbreaking action sequences, make no mistake, it’s Derek Kolstad’s unique worldbuilding that separates the franchise from the likes of The Equalizer, Taken and your other ‘one-man army’ action flicks. I’m curious to see what Kolstad brings to the table for Falcon and The Winter Soldier.
Previously, Kevin Feige made it clear that the Marvel shows on Disney+ will be directly connected to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In other words, yes they will be part of the official canon.
“These will be major storylines, set within the MCU, with ramifications that will be felt both through the other Disney+ series we’re producing and our features on the big screen. A post-Endgame MCU will be extremely different and extremely focused on Disney+ tying into our future movies.”
