Since the discontinuation of the SmartTAG reader last year, a number of alternative card readers have taken over its role and the latest in the list is the newly launched LokaTAG. Made by LOKATECH Engineering, the device was designed in collaboration with EFKON which is the Austrian company that provided the SmartTAG’s infrastructure that you still can utilize at toll plazas throughout the country.
What made LokaTAG different from existing readers such as MaxTag and E-Tag is that this device is meant to be installed directly into your car. Hence, it is powered directly by the car’s battery instead of a 9V volt battery as compared to the usual readers.
LokaTAG would also alert users if the credit in their TnG card is under RM 10. If this solution seems rather familiar to you, that is because you might have seen similar implementation in the latest version of Perodua Myvi 1.5 although it wasn’t made clear whether Perodua has sourced its device from LOKATECH or other companies.
Priced at RM 499, the LokaTAG is now available immediately through its official store at Shopee. As for the installation, user can choose to visit the selected dealers that are listed on its website or have LOKATECH people themselves come to install LokaTAG into your car as long as you are within Klang Valley, Penang, or Johor Bharu.
