Canon is a mainstream name in the world of cameras, and thus usually has the funds to make its own cameras. But it’s turning to Indiegogo to crowdfund its IVY REC, a small camera that also comes with a carabiner on top.
The Canon Ivy Rec comes with a 13MP CMOS sensor that can also record in Full HD at 60 fps. It’s also shockproof, and waterproof up to 30 minutes for up to a depth of one meter. Canon’s promotional images on the Indiegogo page also says that it’s “great for outdoors”.
At the back, there’s a dial that serves as the sole user interface element. You use this to switch between photo and video modes, or turn the IVY REC off. According to Digital Photography Review, Canon says that you can use the carabiner as a viewfinder, or you can connect the IVY REC to a phone using WiFi or Bluetooth, and the CanonMini Cam app.
As of yet, the Indiegogo page doesn’t disclose the price, or when the crowdfunding campaign will actually go live. That said, the page does say that early birds will get up to 30% off the retail price.
