In one of the closing scenes of Avengers: Endgame, we see Peter Quill AKA Star-Lord using his computer to search for Gamora. This happens a quick second before Thor gets onboard the spaceship and the both of them start comedically bickering. The fate of Gamora has been a popular topic of discussion since Endgame. While the prime timeline Gamora was murdered by Thanos in Avengers: Infinity Stone in his effort to retrieve the soul stone, Endgame introduced the alternate (past) timeline Gamora. Here we see Gamora evil, carrying out Thanos’ orders. However, after much convincing from the prime timeline Nebula, Gamora switches side. She abandons Thanos’ army to fight alongside the good. But, when Tony puts on the Infinity Gauntlet and snaps his fingers, we see every single member of Thanos’ army turn to dust.
Does this mean that alternate timeline Gamora got dusted too? Well, one can argue that Iron Man couldn’t have possibly known Gamora had switched sides to the good before snapping his fingers. But I think most of us are in assumption that alternate timeline Gamora is indeed still alive. During a panel at ACE Comic Con in Seattle this weekend, Zoe Saldana, who plays Gamora in the MCU gave us some clarification when asked what she’d like to see for Gamora in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3.
“It all depends. The technical answer is it all depends on what Marvel and James Gunn desire to do with the Guardians and with Gamora’s fate. I would eventually, there’s a part of me that wants her to go back, find her way back to the Guardians but there’s also a part of me that wants to explore a bad Gamora. I’ve never seen that and she’s, you know, she’s considered the most lethal assassin, the most lethal woman in the galaxy so I would want to see what that wrath looks like also because it would just give me layers to sort of work on. But yeah, I want her to get back to the Guardians.”
While it looks like Saldana did not give away any details regarding the exact future of the character, she did imply that the character is indeed still alive. A movie focused on evil Gamora being a badass killer? Sign me up!
