In a rather interesting show of confidence, the renowned retailer DirectD that it will provide a full refund to its customers if the Google apps within Huawei devices ceased to function which could happen due to the sanctions by the US government on the Chinese company. In general, this is similar to the special warranty in the Philippines that made it to the headlines recently.
While the company didn’t provide further details in its announcement, the given link to its website also includes HONOR devices as well. According to its Facebook page, the exact app that DirectD defines as Google apps includes Google Play, Google Maps, Gmail, and YouTube.
Interesting enough, the retailer also includes Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp which are technically Facebook’s apps instead of Google. As noted in the post, the full refund only applicable if the Huawei or HONOR devices are still under warranty. Of course, it goes without saying the refund is limited to devices that were originally purchased from DirectD.
At this moment, it is not known whether there are other local retailers that are also providing similar refund for such cases. Then again, we not surprised if they start to follow suit given the market reach that Huawei and HONOR have in Malaysia.
