The beauty of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is that we get to see characters pop in and out of movies centred around other characters. The interconnectivity opens the door wide open for various interesting pairings and team-ups even outside of the huge Avengers movies. The Thor-Hulk team up in Taika Waititi’s Thor: Ragnarok resulted in a truly unique work of comedy, while the pairing of Tony Stark and Peter Parker in Spider-Man: Homecoming brought about some emotionally powerful moments that were then carried over into Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame. There’s also a Falcon & Winter Soldier series currently in development — an intriguing spy-thriller perhaps?
The possibilities are endless! And it looks like Tom Holland (the actor who plays Spider-Man) feels the same way too. In an interview with CinemaBlend, Tom Holland mentioned that he would love to see the web-slinger team up with Doctor Strange.
“I’m really wanting to do a team-up with Doctor Strange, because we’re both New Yorkers and I just really like the idea of a science guy being teamed up with a guy who does magic, because it totally contradicts everything he knows. And I like the idea that there is real science that Peter Parker talks about, and then there’s Doctor Strange gibberish, where he’s like ‘The time rift and the thing and the thing.’ So it’s kind of fun.”
Spider-Man and Doctor Strange previously met in Avengers: Infinity War onboard Ebony Maw’s ship. They had a quick little comedic exchange (together with Iron Man) before later teaming up with Star-Lord, Drax, Mantis and Nebula to fight Thanos on planet Titan. Just thinking about a Spidey-Doctor Strange team-up movie puts a smile on my face. Given their personalities, surely it would be a buddy comedy of sorts, with Strange functioning as the straight man next to Spidey who’s always quipping.
