Rumours regarding ASUS’ 2nd generation ROG Phone have to surface online. And while information about the phone is scarce, one thing seems to have been confirmed: the ROG Phone 2’s display will have a refresh rate of 120Hz.
Information regarding the ROG Phone 2’s new display was reportedly confirmed by a post made from the brand’s official Weibo account. Specifically, the post is a poster – written in Chinese and using an anime-based game as reference – showing a side-by-side panel comparison between a display running on 60Hz and 120Hz.
For the record, the ROG Phone 2 isn’t the first ASUS mobile device to sport a display with high refresh rate. To recap, the current ROG Phone already sports a display with 90Hz refresh rate, which is already impressive in its own right. On another note, the ROG Phone 2 isn’t the first phone to sport a 120Hz refresh rate; that honour goes to the Razer Phone and Razer Phone 2.
Further, the poster also confirms that ASUS has entered into a partnership of sorts with China’s Tencent Games, leading some to believe that some games from the Tencent Games will be fully optimised for the upcoming phone’s new display.
There’s still no information regarding the rest of the ROG Phone 2’s hardware. Given the trend, though, it’s looking very likely that the phone will ship out with the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC. And just about as much memory as the ROG Phone (the phone has 8GB RAM), if not more. More importantly, some are hoping that the new phone will still be compatible with all of the original accessories that came with the ROG Phone.
