5G networks adoption have barely even started, but Samsung is already looking towards the future beyond that. The company recently announced the launch of a new research centre that will be dedicated to researching 6G network speeds.
According to the Korea Herald, the new research centre was launched under Samsung Research, the brand’s R&D division. In addition to 6G research, the centre will also be looking into the development of AI and robotics technology.
While the technology has yet to produce any tangible performance data, the Internation Research Journal of Engineering and Technology notes that 6G will be able to reach transfer speeds beyond 10Gbps, and will be able to integrate with satellite networks. By comparison, the upcoming 5G networks being rolled out in Malaysia have to reach such speeds, with TM’s own 5G network currently topping out at 5Gbps.
Of course, it goes without saying that the technology is still in its infancy stage, so don’t expect to see being rolled out within the next few years.
