One of the most crowd-pleasing moments in Avengers: Endgame happens during the climax. After protecting the Infinity Gauntlet with his life, Spider-Man passes it to Captain Marvel to take it to safety. However, a portion of Thanos’ army starts charging at her with urgency. Spider-Man says, “I don’t know how you’re gonna get through all of them,” when one by one all the female superheroes — Scarlett Witch, Gamora, Mantis, Okoye, Pepper Potts, Valkyrie, Shuri, Wasp and Nebula — arrive right on time beside Captain Marvel. “Don’t worry,” they say. “She’s got help.” Before proceeding to run towards the baddies like the bunch of badasses that they are. It’s a cool sequence (yes, we know some people think it’s pandering).
The sequence also made many fans clamour for an all-female Avengers spinoff film. While we’re not sure if we’re going to be getting that any time soon, we can still hope for smaller female team-up films, especially when some MCU directors are expressing their excitement over it. One team-up a lot of fans desperately want to see is that of Captain Marvel and Valkyrie and it looks like Captain Marvel directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck feel the same way too. When asked by Cinema Blend which character they’d like to see Caron Danvers AKA Captain Marvel team up with in the future, here’s what they had to say:
Ryan Fleck: There’s been a lot of… look, I have no idea what the plans are for the future. But the speculation online about Carol and Valkyrie teaming up, I think, is a pretty cool, pretty cool idea.
Anna Boden: She’s one of my favorite women of Marvel.
This would certainly be a fun team-up. Besides being strong female characters, both of these women also have a spunky attitude and a bit of sarcasm and sass. I imagine a buddy cop style intergalactic space adventure film filled with great comedic beats and some drama sprinkled in as well. Whatever the case, the future of the MCU looks exciting!
