It happened rather quietly but as it turns out, Huawei Mate 20 Pro is back on the list of Android Q Beta Devices. As you might be able to recall, the phone was originally included in the list which was announced at this year’s Google I/O but was subsequently removed around a week ago without explanation.
It was widely assumed that the removal was due to the ban on Huawei by the United States government which affected the Chinese company’s relationship with Google and Android ecosystem. However, we believed that the Mate 20 Pro was inserted back into the list in relation to the temporary 90-days license that was provided to Huawei.
Additionally, the Android Q Beta for Huawei Mate 20 Pro is not exactly open for public anyway as only those with Google Play Developer’s account can participate in it as opposed to Google and Essential devices.
Regardless of that, the relisting adds up to a relatively good week for the folks at Huawei. This following the company’s reinstatement to four major technology groups and a huge support from our own Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahathir.
