At the official opening of its Malaysian office today, Facebook has revealed that its Terragraph wireless technology will be implemented in Cyberjaya very soon. This was announced by the Country Director of Malaysia at Facebook, Nicole Tan.
For those who not familiar with the technology, it was designed to deliver gigabit speed in a more cost-effective way than fibre network. The implementation of the technology is apparently less intrusive than fibre as well which is why Terragraph was deemed suitable to be put to test at Georgetown, Penang; itself a UNESCO World Heritage city.
According to Nicole, the Terragraph implementation in Cyberjaya will also be in partnership with a local service provider although the official announcement will be made the company itself very soon. In Penang, Facebook worked together with YTL Communications to implement the tech over there.
However, Nicole did confirm that the Terragraph implementation in Cyberjaya will take place within 2019. With that, we’ll keep you posted once we hear more details about it from Facebook in the near future.
