A few days ago, there were rumours circling the internet that Marvel Studios was considering introducing Ryan Reynold’s Deadpool in Spider-Man 3, officially bringing the character into the Marvel Cinematic Universe fold. That rumour seemed a little unlikely as Deadpool is an R-rated character and will reportedly remain that way even after Disney’s acquisition of Fox. I’m not quite sure how the Merc with a Mouth would fit into the PG-13 world of Spider-Man, but considering the fourth-wall-breaking nature of the character, there are of course ways to go about it.
Having said that, a Marvel insider by the name of Roger Wardell (most likely an alias) debunks the aforementioned rumour. However, he does go on to say that Sony desperately wants Tom Hardy’s Venom in this movie.
“There are no plans to add Deadpool in an MCU Spider-Man 3, but Sony desperately wants Tom Hardy’s Venom in this movie. Deadpool had his own movies but never showed up in the main X-Men films, it will be the same for the MCU.”

If these rumours are indeed true, I can imagine there being some form of pushback from Kevin Feige and gang in regards to including Tom Hardy’s Venom in Spider-Man 3 which would make it an official member of the MCU as well. After all, while Venom did splendidly at the box office, grossing over $US 855 million worldwide, it received scathing reviews from critics. However, we have to remember that Sony still controls the screen rights of Spider-Man and allows the character to operate in Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Roger Wardell also claims something that many of us have been speculating for years now which is Deadpool will not be a part of the main MCU, instead, the character will be given the freedom to play in its own sandbox. This is perhaps the best way to utilise the foul-mouthed, hyperviolent character without diluting or toning down some of the aspects that make those movies great.
But in all honesty, all of this should be taken with a grain of salt. It still remains unclear who exactly Roger Wardell is or why he’s choosing to reveal insider information. Last December, Wardell leaked major Avengers: Endgame spoilers that were ultimately revealed to be true.
