In conjunction of what would be his 65th birthday, Google earlier today has unveiled a Doodle to honour one of the nation’s most well-known singer, the late Sudirman Hj. Arshad. The legend has joined Mokhtar Dahari, P.Ramlee, and Yasmin Ahmad as among only a handful of prominent Malaysians that have received such tribute from Google.
While Google didn’t reveal the story behind the doodle, the artwork seems to be inspired by the Sudirman’s acclaimed performance at Asian Popular Music Awards 1989 in Royal Albert Hall:
In addition to his birthday, the unveiling of the Google Doodle seems to be timed nicely with the upcoming Raya celebration. During his lifetime, Sudirman has recorded quite a number of Raya songs which that are still being cherished until today.
One of them is the evergreen Balik Kampung song which was not a Raya song but is quite popular during this season given its theme.
