It’s been almost four years since we last heard Square Enix talk about the Final Fantasy VII remake, and it’s fine if the title had slipped out of your mind. But given its new teaser trailer released during Sony’s State Of Play event, it’s clear that the developer hasn’t been neglecting the game at all.
The new trailer shows more gameplay and story portions which can only be described as carefully picked to pluck at nostalgia strings (and perhaps induce PTSD along the way). At the end of the trailer is another tease, stating that more will be revealed in June.
Based on what we’ve seen, it doesn’t look like there’s much to add to what we’ve already known for the last four years. What little that was shown suggests that game will have a combat system that’s similar to Crisis Core, the PlayStation Portable title that stars Zack Fair.
That said, there’s still the question of if the game will be done in an episodic manner, as previously announced. Looks like we’ll just have to wait till June to find out more. And compared to four years, this one month should be over really soon.
