Remember the previous rumour from Pastebin which claims that the PlayStation 5 will be announced in June? It looks like Sony has just shot that one out of the sky, as the company has confirmed that the console won’t launch within the next 12 months.
As reported by Takashi Mochizuki of the Wall Street Journal, this fact was confirmed by a PR representative from Sony Interactive Entertainment. This leaves May of 2020 as the earliest possible month for the announcement of PS5 although we predict that the company could be aiming for the year-end holiday season instead.
Sony:
-No next-gen PlayStation launch over next 12 months
-PS Now has been ave. 40% annual growth since launch, now 700,000 users
-Much of Y31.1 billion (difference between past fy op vs this fy op outlook) to be invested to develop next PlayStation console— Takashi Mochizuki (@6d6f636869) April 26, 2019
Previously, Sony did officially reveal a number of things regarding the upcoming next-generation PlayStation console. For example, it will sport a custom 7nm AMD Ryzen CPU, and a Radeon GPU based on the 7nm Navi architecture. Ray-tracing and 8K will also be supported on the next-generation PlayStation console.
All in all, the confirmation above means that gamers throughout the world have time to save up for the upcoming console. Also, expect more rumours and leaks regarding PS5 to pop up as we get closer to its eventual launch day.
