Samsung and Huawei will likely pop on your mind when it comes to a foldable device but truth to be told, there are plenty of other companies working on such device including Sharp. Interestingly though, Sharp is aiming to decrease the phone size instead when the Samsung Galaxy Fold and Huawei Mate X unfold to expand the screen space.
Recently, Sharp has showcased a clamshell-style OLED display that looks very similar to the Moto Razr foldable phone. Designed for smartphones, the 6.18-inch display has a native resolution of 1440 x 3040 as well as DCI-P3 wide colour gamut.
According to Sharp, the screen is able to bend up to a 3mm radius and has apparently undergone 100,000 bending tests successfully. However, it was made from a plastic substrate, which could leave creases on the screen over time.
Before you get excited though, do keep in mind that the display is just a concept product for now. It is not known at the moment whether anyone has adopted it into an actual product but nevertheless, this showed that foldable device is no longer a far-fetched dream anymore.
