The Marvel Cinematic Universe has mostly been reserved for the big screens. Sure, the ABC and Netflix shows are somewhat connected to the MCU, but not in any significant manner. In fact, the folks at Marvel Studios have made it clear in the past that their TV and movie content should be viewed through somewhat separate prisms. However, with the previously announced Disney+ titles like The Vision and Scarlet Witch, Loki and Winter Soldier/Falcon, it feels like we’ll finally be getting substantive expansions of the films into small screen media.
On top of the series mentioned above, Variety reports that Disney’s upcoming streaming platform is currently also working on a limited series centred around Clint Barton/Hawkeye. Jeremy Renner is attached to star. Per Variety:
The project is said to be an adventure series in which Clint Barton, a.k.a. Hawkeye, will pass the torch to Kate Bishop. Bishop is a Marvel Comics character who took up the Hawkeye mantle after Barton. She is also a member of the group known as the Young Avengers.
While details of the series are still unclear, fans can expect it to be set post-Avengers: Endgame, considering the Kate Bishop storyline that they’re going for. For those who are unfamiliar, Kate Bishop is a Marvel comics character who first appeared in Young Avengers. In the comics, she’s the 3rd character and first female to take on the Hawkeye mantle after Clint Barton and the lesser known Wyatt McDonald. But, it looks like the Marvel Cinematic Universe version will make Kate Bishop the immediate successor to Barton.
When the Endgame trailer dropped, many speculated that Clint’s daughter would eventually take up her father’s mantle, since Clint can be seen training her. However, with the Kate Bishop announcement, I fully expect all of Clint’s family members to bite the dust which would lead Clint down a darker path and become Ronin.
