As far as the popularity of battle royale games go, the current top dog is undeniably Fortnite. As a popular game, it’s an easy target for detractors of video games, going as far as to blame it for causing divorces. The latest to join in on the hate train is Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex and sixth in line to the British throne.
Speaking just before the Gaming BAFTA Awards, the prince accused Fortnite with a flurry of names. Ranging from “created to addict” to “irresponsible”, according to the BBC. He goes on to ask “Where is the benefit of having it in your household?” And moving beyond Fortnite, he also said that social media was “more addictive than alcohol and drugs.”
This is ironic in a couple of ways. For one, he made the comment just before the Gaming BAFTA Awards. And second, the official Instagram account for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex launched around the same time the BBC report was published. It is also unclear if his beef is with video games in general or with Fortnite specifically.
It looks like the child of Prince Harry won’t be playing any Fortnite, then. Incidentally, both him and his wife, Megan, The Duchess of Sussex, are expecting their first child between the end of April and early May.
