Cloud storage is one of the many things that’s not named after the actual thing. But Google has decided that this is a problem that needs to be addressed. The solution? Actual clouds.
Instead of having all the data bound to terrestrial servers, Google has decided that its cloud service needs to be in the sky, like the real thing. It will even come with a boost in performance when the cloud happens to get turned into a storm cloud, something that’s usually the opposite of what happens during a rainstorm.
The tech behind it is not properly explained. All we get are lines like “groundbreaking scientific research” and “technological breakthroughs”.
Unfortunately, the nature and date of this announcement says everything we need to know about it. That said, it would be really impressive if such a tech is at all possible.
