Valve may have partnered with HTC for the Vive, but it looks like the company wants its own VR headset after all. It has put up a teaser of what it will look like, along with the name Valve Index.
The teaser image itself looks like a shot of the headset from below, with a date that reads May 2019. There is even a Steam page for the headset now, with the tagline “Upgrade your experience.” But aside from the basic outline look of the headset, its name, and the presumed release month, details are as scarce as can be.
This comes at a strange time for the company, to say the least. After all, the company did downsize its VR division, letting go 13 people in the process. That said, the division isn’t getting shuttered, and despite the layoffs, Valve was also reported to be looking for a VR engineer.
At any rate, there’s slightly over a month to go before Valve reveals more details about this new headset. Hence, the waiting period is not too long.
