Can you believe that Game of Thrones is actually coming to an end?! What a journey it has been, both fist pumping and heartbreaking. Like a junkie who’s chucked into rehab, fans are going to be suffering from major withdrawals once the series comes to a close in May. Personally, I am not looking forward to that feeling. Thankfully, HBO is going to be offering a way for us to cope with our Game of Thrones-less life.
HBO will be airing a feature-length Game of Thrones documentary on May 27th at 9am (MYT), which is a week after the series finale. The two-hour documentary titled Game of Thrones: The Last Watch was directed by Jeanie Finlay (Seahorse), with showrunners David Benioff and D.B Weiss serving as executive producers.
According to HBO, the show will dive “deep into the mud and blood to reveal the tears and triumphs involved in the challenge of bringing the fantasy world of Westeros to life in the very real studios, fields and car-parks of Northern Ireland.”
Made with unprecedented access, GAME OF THRONES: THE LAST WATCH is an up-close and personal report from the trenches of production, following the crew and the cast as they contend with extreme weather, punishing deadlines and an ever-excited fandom hungry for spoilers.
Much more than a “making of” documentary, this is a funny, heartbreaking story, told with wit and intimacy, about the bittersweet pleasures of what it means to create a world — and then have to say goodbye to it.
Just thinking about the doc gives me the feels. As someone who has watched the series multiple times and even has a Game of Thrones tattoo, I am eager to take a deeper dive into the world and gain some delicious behind-the-scenes insights.
Game of Thrones: The Last Watch will premiere on HBO/HBO On Demand on May 27th at 9 am (MYT) and encore on the same day at 10 pm.
