OPPO’s SuperVOOC is the fastest wired charger in the commercial market, boasting a 50W charging speed at 10V/5A. That might change in the future, as Xiaomi’s engineers have reportedly developed a much faster charging solution than what OPPO has to offer.
Lin Bin, the brand president of Xiaomi gave the world a first look at the 100W charger via Weibo recently. To show its superiority, the 100W charger running at 20V/5A is pit against OPPO’s 50W solution.
For context, the fastest charging solution from Xiaomi right now is just its 27W charger. Only the current flagship, the Mi 9, is compatible with said charger, but the device comes bundled with an 18W power adapter only. The 27W charger is sold separately.
In the video demonstration, Xiaomi’s Super Charge Turbo is tested with a 4000mAh device and the OPPO with a 3700mAh device. Xiaomi’s charger is able to charge a device to full capacity in under just 17 minutes, while the latter only managed to get 65%.
Apart from the demo, Lin Bin shared no additional details about the technology. The questions that remain now is when this technology will start appearing on commercial devices, nor how Xiaomi plans to ensure that it charges safely. After all, the last thing anyone wants is a battery combusting from overcharging.
