Comments sections are areas online that average people would typically avoid because it brings out the worst in people. However, there is now a Chrome plugin by the name of Tune, and it’s designed to help adjust the frequency of an online conversation.
Tune is made by Jigsaw, a sister company of Google, using an AI called Perspective. The AI automatically blocks out comments that it considers toxic. So that you don’t have to see it. It’s reportedly already being used on YouTube, helping channel owners to block out toxic comments.
Being an AI, it’s still prone to either flagging false positives, or letting real toxicity slip past. So when you use Tune, expect the experimental plugin to make mistakes every so often. On another note, it doesn’t work across the entirety of the internet; but only on YouTube, Twitter, Facebook, Reddit and Disqus. Assuming it works perfectly, you can adjust the amount of toxicity you want to see.
