Sony’s new Xperia 1 isn’t expected to hit the shelves sometime in the middle of the year, and no official price was provided by the brand during its official launch at MWC 2019. Thanks to an online retailer, we now have an idea over just how much Sony’s new flagship could retail for.
The listing for the Xperia 1 was spotted on Clove Technology, an online retailer based in the UK. The product page lists down the phone in just one variant, which runs on 6GB RAM and has 128GB of expandable storage. It also offers users a choice to pre-order the phone in one of its four colours; black, white, grey, or purple.
Interestingly, the site also more or less confirms the Xperia 1’s slated launch date. Stating that the first stock of the phone will arrive sometime at the end of May.
Of course, the takeaway here is the price of the phone, which is listed as £849 (~RM4517). It’s undeniably the most expensive price tag Sony has ever slapped on to an Xperia smartphone. In fact, the phone costs more than the Xperia XZ2 when it launched last year.
As usual, the pricing seen here isn’t official, and given the nature of an online retailer, that amount could change closer to its purported launch time. Further, while pricing for the phone differs from country to country, we wouldn’t be surprised if Sony were to bring the phone at price point similar or slightly higher than the stated RM4517.
Alas, there’s also the possibility that Sony may not bring the phone into Malaysia, given the poor reception of the brand’s Xperia lineup in the past few years.
