The name MediaTek isn’t usually the name that comes attached to flagship phones. Of course, that’s not stopping the company from going further, and Android Authority reports that the company is working on a new SoC that is intended for higher end market.
This new chipset in question is said to be a 7nm chip that is capable of 5G connectivity. Scheduled for release within this year, it apparently will be more capable than the Helio P90.
That said, the company isn’t ready to give it a name just yet. Finbarr Moynihan, Vice President of Corporate Sales and Business Development for MediaTek Americas and Europe, said “How we brand it and what it shows up as, I’m not sure. But you’ll certainly see more high-end capability than, say, we’ve exhibited on the P90.”
Since MediaTek Helio P90 was only announced in December last year, it may take a while before the company reveal more details regarding its new high-end chip. We’ll keep posted once we hear more from MediaTek.
