While it may have missed its target deadline of bringing the Widevine L1 certification to its Pocophone F1 at the end of last year, Xiaomi has finally rolled out the certification to the phone via an OTA update. Well, at least to units running on the POCO beta version 9.2.25 of the MIUI.
Back during September last year, it was discovered that the Pocophone F1 was unable to stream content from internet video streaming services – the list of which includes Netflix and Amazon Prime Video – at resolutions of 720p or higher. This is due to a lack of the Widevine L1 DRM that is required by the device. Under Google’s DRM rules and guidelines.

At current, the certification isn’t widely available for the Pocophone F1 per se. As mentioned, Xiaomi is only rolling out the certification to users on the MIUI beta. Meaning that unless you’re absolutely desperate for HD resolutions on Netflix, you’re just going to have to wait for the Widevine L1 certification to roll out with the next stable MIUI build.
