Kotaku reports that Guild Wars 2 developer ArenaNet has told employees that the company is planning massive layoffs. That said, the company did not mention exact numbers, and the plan itself may not be finalised just yet.
The employees reportedly got the news via email from Songyee Yoon, CEO of NCSoft West. NCSoft is the publisher of Guild Wars 2 and owns ArenaNet, and at the time of writing, houses around 400 employees.
The layoffs are states as part of NCSoft’s plans to cut costs, unsurprisingly. Big-time publisher Activision-Blizzard also stated the same reason for its massive near-800 employee layoff, despite achieving record revenues.
NCSoft CEO’s email reads “The restructuring, cost-cutting, and strategic realignments are all being done to secure our tomorrow and to provide the foundation that will allow us to grow and acquire.” From where we’re sitting, it sounds like the company has decided to take a step back so that it can take a step forward in the future.
