The existence of the device has been rumored for so long, but the wait is finally over. Over at its Galaxy Unpacked 2019 event in San Francisco earlier today which saw the launch of Galaxy S10 series, Samsung has officially unveiled its new foldable phone which is called Galaxy Fold.
Powered by a 7nm 64-bit octa-core processor that is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855, the new device carried 12GB LPDDR4x memory alongside 512GB UFS3.0-based internal storage although it doesn’t come with a MicroSD card slot. The device also comes with two display with one being its main 7.3-inch QXGA+ Dynamic AMOLED Infinity Flex display while the other one is a 4.6-inch HD+ Super AMOLED display that is located on its cover.
In order to achieve the foldable nature of Galaxy Fold’s internal screen, the company has invented a new polymer layer alongside a display that is 50-percent thinner than a standard smartphone display. Additionally, the company has also implemented multiple interlocking gears into the device’s hinge to enable smooth movements when a user opens and closes the Galaxy Fold.
Not only that, Samsung clearly didn’t waste the opportunity to come out with new experiences to fit the foldable form factor of the Galaxy Fold. One such experience is called App Continuity which allows apps to have seamless transitions from the cover display to the main display and vice-versa. Users are also able to utilize up to three apps at the same time on the device’s main display via the 3-way split screen UI.
As if its foldable nature is not unique enough, Samsung has also added six cameras on the Galaxy Fold. Among them including the 10MP selfie camera on its cover together with the triple rear camera and dual selfie camera that was adopted from Galaxy S10 Plus.
Completing Galaxy Fold’s general specifications is a pair of batteries that delivers total battery capacity of 4380mAh for the device. Just like the Galaxy S10 devices, Galaxy Fold also comes with Wireless Power Share feature that allows it to wirelessly charge other Qi-compatible devices.
