At its #khabarbaik briefing earlier today, the Acting EVP for unifi at TM, Moharmustaqeem (Mohar) Mohammed, has stated that unifi team is looking at alternative technologies in order to deliver high-speed Internet to its customers. While this is something that we have heard before, today is the first time we were informed of a certain target.
Specifically, the unifi team has aimed to determine, test, and deploy these technologies within the first quarter of 2019. When asked about the actual technologies that the team is looking at the moment, Mohar was not able to pinpoint them exactly though as it is something within the purview of TM’s network team.
Nevertheless, Mohar did mention that these technologies could be wireless-based or implementations that would improve the performance of TM’s existing copper infrastructures. Regardless of actual technologies that the company will choose to utilize, the newly appointed chief for unifi assures that they will be used to deploy high-speed Internet in more areas especially for those Streamyx customers that don’t have fiber access.
While the effort is indeed commendable, but we believe consumers certainly have to see the said technologies in action first in order to judge their capabilities. Not only that, there is also a question of costs as well, which is an important factor to consider for a lot of consumers out there.
