Sources to Reuters indicate that Snap Inc, the company behind Snapchat, is considering to implement major changes to the messaging platform. These include public posts that last longer, and maybe even permanent.
This is especially if a celebrity is the one to make the public post. The company is also considering revealing the identities of individuals who make public posts, according to the report.
The two changes are pretty much the complete opposite of what Snapchat is known for. That said, these changes, if implemented, will be part of the company’s “Stories Everywhere” initiative. The goal of the initiative is to, as the name suggests, push its “Our Story” public posts to more places outside of Snapchat.
This, in turn, will mean more monetizing options for Snap. The reasoning behind it is that the anonymous and disappearing nature of Snapchat’s public posts make them “difficult to work with,” according to sources to Reuters.
All that said, this will reportedly not affect the short-lived nature of private texts and posts. And even if the changes to public posts come into effect, the option to delete them manually will still be present.
