Social Media users in Malaysia seems to have been particularly targeted over the past couple of weeks with a crypto-currency scam called Crypto Revolt. The heavily sponsored postings on Facebook, brandishes names of successful Malaysians, including that of Goh Peng Ooi, Vincent Tan, and most recently Tony Fernandes to lure users into ‘investing’ money in the shady service.
The postings are further ‘backed’ by claims that these respected figures have spoken to reputable news agencies around the world and made specific comments about investing on the platform early to ‘bring financial freedom back to the people of Malaysia’.
“A user should simply make an initial $250 deposit to purchase a position in Crypto Revolt platform. Then, the automated trading algorithm is ready to go” — Tony Fernandes explained.
AirAsia has since released an official statement on January 19th denying any association with Crypto Revolt, as well as advising members of the public to disregard the content that is being published on social media channels.
As always, we here at Lowyat.NET strongly caution against trusting any unverified news that is shared over social media networks, especially those that involve online monetary transactions.
